Refrigerant Efficiency Recovery Technology

Advanced Refrigerant Enhancement Additive

Air conditioning and refrigeration systems contain a compressor in which, during the normal course of the refrigeration process, the compressor’s lubricating oil comes in direct contact with the refrigerant. Since the early days of refrigeration and air conditioning technology, the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) have addressed the results of the interaction between the oil and the refrigerant. This mixture continuously migrates throughout the entire air conditioning or refrigeration system.

The Refrigeration Handbook, published by ASHRAE states that some lubricating oil is lost from all compressors during normal operation. Since oil inevitably leaves the compressor with the discharge gas, systems using halocarbon refrigerants must return this oil at the same rate at which it leaves. ASHRAE states that unless oil is removed periodically or continuously from the point where it collects, it can cover the heat transfer surface in the evaporator, reducing performance.

As defined by ASHRAE, air conditioning systems degrade due to buildup of contaminates on internal metallic surfaces.

This buildup causes:

  • Increased kW draw at startup
  • Higher air supply temperature
  • Wasted energy usage
  • Increased operating pressure
  • Heat exchange inefficiency
  • Increased operating time
  • High electric bills
  • Shorter equipment life through deterioration and higher demand load

The Solution

Refrigerant enhancements technologies allows for polarized molecules to clean and protect the interior surfaces of the entire system removing any oil fouling and restoring free oil flow back to the reservoir.

Having clean interior heat transfer surfaces and free flowing lubricating oil provides for:

  • Up to a 30% increase in efficiency (average 12%)
  • Increased cooling capacity
  • Lower kW draw at startup
  • Shorter cycle time
  • Low cost of operation
  • Lower life-cycle costs and extended life cycle
